One of the best things about dating a guy who loves his cookies is that I never have to rack my brains over what to make him for Valentine’s day as a special little treat.
But for those of you still wondering what to make for your special someone or even yourself (no better time or excuse to indulge than V-day, if you ask me!), I thought I would do up a list of sweet little things (ala last year) you could whip up this Valentine’s day.
***
Chocolate Bark
Rather than buy a box of chocolate for your Valentine this year, why not go the extra mile and actually make them some chocolate bark?
Not only does it look way more difficult to make than it really is (just melt, stir and pour), you’re also bound to earn extra brownie points by gifting your date their very own customized chocolate bar.
Your Valentine will definitely be blown away by this handmade, heartfelt gift but let’s keep how easy this really is to make our own little secret. [Recipe here]
Cookies and Cream Cake
I may have made this cake half a year ago now but this is the one cake I keep coming back to, longing to indulge in a piece (or two).
And can you really blame me? I mean, this cake is truly a winner with a really delicious and light cookies and cream filling sandwiched between two moist layers of intense chocolate cakes.
Besides, I don’t really don’t know anyone who doesn’t like cookies and cream or cake so this cake is guaranteed to have your special someone weak in the knees. Just don’t forget to save yourself an extra slice for an extra indulgence breakfast the next morning. [Recipe here]
Hotcakes with Blueberry Compote
Speaking of breakfast, why not start the day right by treating you and yours to some homemade breakfast?
Incredibly delicious and light thanks to the ricotta, these hotcakes will have you both going back for seconds and talking about how good they were long after Valentine’s day has passed. [Recipe here]
The $250.00 Cookie
If your Valentine loves cookies half as much as my boyfriend does, they’re bound to go crazy for these cookies.
Crisp, nutty with just the right amount of chocolate, these are sure to please any crisp cookie lover. And as a treat, you get to eat as many freshly baked cookies as you want right off the tray with your Valentine none the wise- just make sure to leave enough to fill a jar! [Recipe here]
Chocolate Mousse Cake
My cake might say ‘happy birthday mum’ but believe me, this is one cake whose appeal definitely isn’t limited to mums.
A crisp nutty chocolate meringue cake topped with a layer of incredibly silky and decadent milk chocolate mousse, this will definitely have any chocoholic swooning and polishing off their dessert plate clean. [Recipe here]
Strawberry Galette
This is without a doubt one of my favourite non-chocolate desserts so I couldn’t resist throwing it into the mix in the rare chance that you or your Valentine isn’t quite a fan of chocolate.
Sweet juicy strawberries encased in crisp, flaky pastry, rustic, delicious desserts really don’t come any better than this. [Recipe here]
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Yes, I know- I’ve already featured a chocolate chip cookie in the list but I just really couldn’t go past this one.
I might have made this a good four years ago and have made quite a few other chocolate chip cookies in between but this is still one of my very favourite recipes for its crisp, crinkly cookies it delivers every time. [Recipe here]
Double Vanilla Butter Cake
Looking for something a little simpler to show your loved one how much they mean to you?
Well, look no further than this double vanilla butter cake.
Buttery, moist and incredibly fragrant, this is bound to leave your loved one in no doubt about how you feel about them. [Recipe here]
Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies
Nope, you didn’t read that wrong.
It does say chocolate chocolate chip cookies. Which translates to chocolate chip cookies made even more decadent with a chocolate batter. And yeap, it really is as good as it sounds- and plenty of sweet dream guaranteed. [Recipe here]
Chocolate-Cinnamon Bundt Cake with Mocha Frosting
I usually tend to be a little wary of desserts that tends to overcomplicate things and flavours but this was one cake I couldn’t resist.
A moist chocolate cake with rich and smooth chocolate-coffee icing, this is bound to please all chocolate and caffeine addicts and leave you both on the best kind of sugar highs. [Recipe here]

And so there you have it – ten sweet little somethings I hope helps sweeten your Valentine’s day.
Whether you’re spending it with your special someone, a bunch of dear friends or just spending some quality time with yourself that day, I hope you feel loved and treat yourself a little this Valentine’s day. Have a great one, everyone!

/ February 13, 2012So I haven’t even eaten breakfast yet today, but I’m eyeing that chocolate-cinnamon bundt cake and the $250 cookie recipe. Maybe I’ll just have to kick start my day with oatmeal cookies, coffee, and fudge to satisfy this new-found hankering…thanks for waking up my taste buds for sugar, Laureen.
