When Life Gives You Broken Cakes..

Rum Balls

.. (or more aptly, when you turn out way too many cakes that fall out of their pan before you were too impatient to wait for them to bake completely or too lazy to grease the pans), you make rum balls.

  1. Hi Laureen,
You’ve got a new look! It’s so clean and so classic! I like it!
Ah yes, I can’t agree with you more. The cakes turned into yummy rum balls! :)

    • Hey Jane. Thanks, I like it too :)

Thanks, Ellie! It’s just one of the easiest (and most delicious ways) to use up ruined cakes isn’t it? I have a whole orange chiffon cake in the freezer waiting to be turned into cake bites

    smart idea.
i get so frustrated when my cakes crack.
do you have a recipe for rum balls? any other ideas? I guess you could take a cookie cutter to the cake and make little shapes!

    • Hi Sarah. It is so heartbreaking isn’t it, to slave over a cake and watch it rise beautifully in the oven only to fall out in pieces out of the pan. It has happened way too many times to me unfortunately.

Anyway, to answer your question, I don’t have a recipe as I sort of threw everything together. But I just broke the cake up into crumbs, added pouring cream, a little at a time, until the crumbs were moistened and loosely held together and poured a whole lot of rum in :) The cookie cutters are a great idea. I don’t know if you’ve seen Bakerella.com. She makes the most gorgeous cake bites- it’s definitely worth a look if you’re looking for inspiration :D

  4. I’ve certainly had my share of cake mishaps. What a great save! Almost makes me want to wreck a cake on purpose! ;)
